Sunday, January 22...yikes! January is almost over. Hard to believe! We had about 10" of snow at Eagle Landing State Park. Went for a walk there today to check on RiverQuest. A very pretty sunny day, no wind. There is some ice in the river which is good. When I got to RiverQuest an immature eagle flew by, checking the river for open water to fish. It then landed on a tree limb, just south of the park. I started to walk towards it when another immature eagle (I think both were first year birds, probably from the East Haddam nest?) came in view. That one flew over to a tree next to the East Haddam nest. Almost immediately, a mature Bald Eagle flew to it's favorite hang out tree, a tree with a good view of the nest. This is a good sign that they are still planning on using their nest from last year. I was getting worried because I hadn't seen the eagles in the last few weeks and a new human house was being built near the nest. I was thinking maybe the eagles got spooked by so much activity near the nest. We'll know soon!

Well into booking our very popular Eagle/Winter Wonderland Cruises now. Cruises start on February 11th and will run through March 18th, weekends at 9:00am, 11:30am and 2:00pm and Thursday at 10:00am and 1:00pm. We may add more dates. The cruises will be a little more than two hours in length. Cost is $40 per person, no one under 10 years old please. There is ON-LINE booking (upper right hand corner each page) for the Eagle/Winter Wonderland Cruises available. This will be our tenth year offering these cruises with the Connecticut Audubon EcoTravel Division.

We have repaired Dock #1 at Eagle Landing State Park, the dock closest to the Swing Bridge. RiverQuest will now depart from that dock, which should be easier for people to walk to and allow passengers to get on to RiverQuest easier.

We are also now booking 2012 Private Charters aboard RiverQuest, she is a great platform for your gathering, corporate or personal, and very affordable.
